Airbnb's New Handmade Ad, Shot in One Take Is A Wonderful Ride

Posted on 2:57 PM by veer

When we travel, the world around us gets smaller. Friendships are made on the fly, landscapes are explored, and new experiences are found around every corner. And when you stay in an Airbnb listing, this small world feeling is amplified immeasurably. We've created a fantastic handmade world that dramatizes the feeling you get while traveling with Airbnb. It's an expansive world, yet truly personal. As the train travels through this world, the viewer gets to experience what is Airbnb and how Airbnb enables you to Belong Anywhere.

Below: A behind the scenes look at the process of creating 'Welcome to Airbnb'. The film was shot through a small camera mounted on the model train in a single, 60-second take. All external movements are mechanical, not animated or done in post-production. All the different transitions that were hand operated had to be incredibly coordinated. It was a well-orchestrated effort to ensure that the 9 people who did several jobs at once were able to either fold things up before, or tilt things over and rotate things to ensure the one perfect take.

The commercial was created by TBWA Singapore and filmed in an Aukland warehouse, 30 people spent five weeks and 2,400 hours creating the 85-square-meter set. Rarely do we enjoy watching a spot that's :60 plus seconds, but this is one that we wished kept going just a bit more.

Behind the scenes with Arsenal FC and PruHealth Vitality

Posted on 4:42 PM by veer

What happens when you leave your smartphone with professional footballers?
A usual day at the Arsenal F.C. training centre consists of a strict regime of shuttle runs, stretching and ball skills but at a recent shoot for Vitality the players took the opportunity to take a breather from training with a few casual selfies on an unguarded smartphone.

England internationals Theo Walcott and Calum Chambers posed alongside Aaron Ramsey and captain Mikel Arteta in several selfies which made for a surprise for the smartphone’s owner. It’s surprising that Lukas Podolski or Wojciech Szczesny didn’t get in on the act given their well-known selfie obsessions.

Podolski has a history of posing for selfies with Bastian Schweinsteiger and German Chancellor Angela Merkel after the World Cup final win. While Szczesny took one of the most well known football selfies of last year, and guess what…Podolski was involved too!

ESPN 30 for 30 Short: "Our Tough Guy, Boston’s John Wensink "

Posted on 6:32 PM by veer

Commercial and music video director Molly Schiot, who is known for her whimsical and humorous animation-driven spots, teams up with ESPN Films and makes a departure to a different realm of storytelling with the new ESPN 30 for 30 Short: "Our Tough Guy." The 10-minute documentary is a meditation on the meaning of a moment that etched the name John Wensink into the annals of NHL History.

The December 1, 1977 game between the Minnesota North Stars and Boston Bruins started out as any other typical NHL game in the ’70s — no helmets and plenty of brawls. One showdown that never actually happened turned this game into one of hockey legend. Shortly after Boston’s John Wensink and Minnesota’s Alex Pirus got untangled from their fight, Wensink famously skated over to the North Stars bench and motioned for the whole team to take him on. They didn’t.

Through Wensink’s own words and anecdotes from passionate fans, family, and fellow NHL players, “Our Tough Guy” takes you into the mind-set of the Bruins’ most legendary enforcer — and the journey one takes when that life is left behind.

Schiot, growing up 40 miles from Boston and a die-hard Bruins fan herself, examines the ringing echoes of the moment in Wensink's life that continues to reverberate in a multitude of ways for the people affected by it. In the hearts of devoted Boston Bruins fans it remains as loud as an explosion, a summoning call to confidence for a city caught in social conflict. To fellow hockey players, it is a nearly mythic show of solidarity rarely seen today; to the man himself - it was nearly insignificant.

All of the opening footage of the film was shot at the legendary Eire pub in Dorchester (home to New Kids on The Block and Whitey Bulger). At an 8:30 am open call for all Boston natives that remembered Wensink in his Bruin days, in walked true fans wearing their jerseys ready to share their memories of going to Wensink games at the Garden. "The people that walked through that door were straight out of what I manifested in my head the day before," remarked Schiot. "They were all so insanely perfect."

"John was quite the opposite of what you would imagine," says Schiot of her interview of Wensink. "Close your eyes and imagine a giant teddybear who loves to crack jokes with a deep scruffy voice and a mustache that takes up almost half of his face."

Schiot brings a deft sense of heart, poeticism and innocence to a moment that could simply be regarded as a dramatic challenge to a fight for the acclaimed ESPN 30 for 30 Shorts series.

King Snare Crafts A Moment For Greene King IPA featuring Steve Noble

Posted on 4:17 PM by veer

Watch legendary improvisational percussionist Steve Noble perform a mesmerising, unrehearsed freestyle drum solo in King Snare. The two-minute film, for British brewer Greene King IPA, dramatises the intuitive craft that goes into brewing beer.

Greene King has been brewing fine quality ales since 1799, and after more than 200 years, the business of making beer becomes an intuitive craft.

To dramatize this and promote the IPA brand, it has collaborated with legendary improvisational percussionist Steve Noble, AKA King Snare.

Noble is undisputed drumming royalty on the alternative Jazz scene.

In a two-minute film created by Grey London, Noble performs a mesmerizing, unrehearsed freestyle drum solo; every single one of the beats fine-tuned in hundreds of late night jazz clubs over the past 50 years.

Shot by up-and-coming young British Director George Belfield, it was filmed in a single take, without any sheet music and features Noble’s 40-year-old drum kit which has traveled around the world with him.

"There comes a point when you don’t so much play the drums, you feel them. Like any craft that has been perfected over a long time, it’s instinctive, simple and totally unique. It’s not something you can easily teach or replicate.” claims Noble, who studied under Nigerian master-drummer Elkan Ogunde.

“When you see, hear or taste something really special, you can sense the pain, hardship and toil that have helped create that perfect moment.” added Nils Leonard, Chairman & Chief Creative Officer of Grey London.

Freeview Left Behinds - Meet the singing toys In New Advert

Posted on 4:58 PM by veer

In Freeview's new TV advert, something magical happens at a jumble sale. At the end of the day, when everything has been packed away, all the unsold items come to life.

This weekend Freeview is launching the latest instalment of its popular campaign: ‘Entertainment. It’s even better when it’s free.’

The campaign, created by Leo Burnett is called ‘Left Behinds’. In the TV advert, something magical happens at a jumble sale. At the end of the day, when everything has been packed away, all the unsold items - a motley-crew including toys, ornaments and stuffed animals - come to life and sing I Want To Know What Love Is, by Foreigner.

The emotional performance is witnessed by a gobsmacked man, and demonstrates the campaign idea: Entertainment. It's even better when it's free.

Owen Jenkinson, Freeview’s Head of Marketing, said: “This campaign follows our much-loved ‘Tadpoles’ and ‘Cat and Budgie’ ads. We’re introducing new characters but the ad is just as surprising and effective at demonstrating the joy of having free entertainment.

“Indeed, with 95% of the nation’s favourite TV programmes available on Freeview, it encourages consumers to question whether they need to pay for TV when they can get great quality and variety content subscription-free.”

Disney's Cinderella Official US Trailer

Posted on 6:43 PM by veer

Have courage and be kind. Watch the brand new trailer for Disney’s Cinderella, starring Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, and Helena Bonham Carter. See the film in theatres March 13, 2015.

The story of "Cinderella" follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella's father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella's hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and -- armed with a pumpkin and a few mice -- changes Cinderella's life forever.

V Squared Labs Awes With Groundbreaking StarCraft II Projection Mapped Stage for the World Champion Series at BlizzCon 2014

Posted on 6:22 PM by veer

V Squared Labs, the Los Angeles based leading visual arts studio was recently commissioned by Blizzard Entertainment to produce the larger-than-life eSports stage for the World Championship of StarCraft II at this year's BlizzCon Conference. Standing at an incredible 130ft wide x 40ft tall the V Squared Labs team completed an astounding 3-D projection mapped stage creation at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena. Twenty-four 26K projectors running over 624,000 lumens helped make this the second largest projection mapped stage of its kind in the e-sports field with the number one highest pixel count.

The goal of the animation was to immerse the audience in new worlds inspired by the existing lore from the maps and races. The illusion created by re-projecting these virtual scenes onto the dynamic set were so convincing that the audience at moments became unable to distinguish the virtual from the physical reality. The set was built and installed by Stage House in Las Vegas whose team truly helped make this design a reality.

Projection geometry was designed to frame and highlight the stage elements as well as to reflect and incorporate the StarCraft II game aesthetic. The wrapping of two booth windows, two front stairs and three screens, made the structure completely continuous allowing for fluid animation transitions. To enhance the live experience, Every surface was rigorously kept at 45 degree angles for build convenience, projection purposes, and to mirror the isometric viewing style of the game itself. The set topology was inspired from StarCraft II user interface elements, in-game architecture, and the various animations that were projected onto the set. Several iterations and styles of set geometry were explored and finessed over a span of 6 weeks before settling on a final design for animation.

The stage was designed to enhance and amplify StarCraft II gameplay and architectural styles. The animation design incorporated game assets with original 3D models created by V Squared Labs. Each of these race looks also had a unique victory sequence that overtook the losing players side of the set. The player and display booths were positioned at a height that visually exemplified their epic reputations giving the arena audience an encompassing cinematic experience.
