Just shy of 4,900 submissions from 29 countries the final 10 does not come without some controversy online...there are no women finalists, what was originally a contest open to amateur film makers, it seems most work in the industry, and sadly one of the finalists (Trouble in the Back Seat) appears to be an obvious copy of the TBWA/PHS, Helsinki created ad "Drama Queen" (see it below and judge for yourself). Pereira & O’Dell Creates Ships, Sharks And Swirling Seas For 1-800 Contacts "Pirates" Ad

Posted on 4:02 PM by veer

Pirates,” the latest installment in the ongoing 1-800 Contacts campaign, is a seafaring tale of chaos made more intense by forgotten contacts. The spot reunited Timber with agency Pereira & O’Dell, Epoch Director Phil Morrison and Arcade Editor Greg Scruton to craft the high seas hi-jinx.

Timber was tapped to supervise Director Phil Morrison’s massive green screen shoot and execute the visual effects that would take the pirates from dry land to open ocean. To produce an authentic, fog-soaked pastiche, the ship scene was filmed with smoke, which created the unavoidable consequence of green “spill” that was suppressed in post by Dave Hussey of Company 3 and the Timber team. To place the ship in its watery context, Timber scouted docks to film with the exact height and dimension for perfect background plates; they then used tracking and projection to help unite the ship and sea elements seamlessly. To further enhance the cinematic feel of the commercial, Timber concepted and created a burning ship and a frenzy of sharks.

The spot’s concept was massive, and we wanted to add elements that would provide thematic visual interest. The agency and Phil said ‘go for it,’ and that’s exactly what we did,” says Timber Partner & Creative Director Jonah Hall. “Burning ships and sharks – that’s a veritable visual effects playground. It was pure enjoyment.”

Dollar Shave Club’s Hilarious New Commercials

Posted on 4:40 PM by veer

Dollar Shave Club has done it again - today releasing four brand new hilarious video ads. The videos, which will soon be released on TV, showcase the frustrating and primitive experience that comes with buying razors in stores. For those of us used to unreasonable prices and in-store security measures, these ads should definitely “hit” home. Be sure to view the original video/ad "Our Blades Are F***ing Great" (below after the credits) that has been viewed over 17 million times already.

“Free Gift” - Beware of less-than-awesome incentives when buying overpriced razors at the store.

“Security” - Hey, you’re not a criminal. You just want to grab some razors.

“Tranq Dart” - Buying razors at the store can be a numbing experience. Literally.

“Pay Up” - When you buy overpriced razors at the store, you pay with your dignity.

A peek inside BLAH Airlines Flight 101 - Virgin America

Posted on 4:40 PM by veer

Virgin America and Eleven San Francisco's latest ad campaign is so bad it's brilliant. The campaign, that launched today, centers on showing people how much it sucks to fly a “blah” airline, by depicting the experience of a mundane flight from takeoff to landing. The result? A 5 hour, 45 minute film on board the aptly named BLAH Airlines - a generic new airline created in the image of the soulless flight experience offered by the mainstays of the airline category. Flying under the mantra “We’ll get you there,” the film offers a real-time look at a EWR>SFO flight on Blah Airlines. The film is packed with hilarious “easter eggs” for viewers to keep watching. It’s the kind of flight you wish would stop, but somehow you can’t stop watching it.

If you have 5+ hours to kill, the full length film is below.

I’d Tap That: Grannies | Tap & Roll with Zipcar

Posted on 4:04 PM by veer

Ever hear your Grandma say she’d like to “tap that”? Thankfully, neither have I, but you’ll hear just that from a trio of older female basketball fans in this funny new video from car sharing company Zipcar.

In the video, a trio of old female spectators chat near a basketball court, while evidently checking out the younger players. After they each mention how much they’d like to “tap” what they’re admiring, we soon find out the ladies are actually checking out a Zipcar parked just beyond the court. Mercifully, we don’t have to imagine the older ladies wanting to tap anything more than the car.

The video, which was created by the same team that made the funny and hugely popular “Hello Flo” video, cleverly juxtaposes the vernacular meaning of “I’d tap that” with the literal meaning of how a member uses Zipcar.

Freshpet, Apparently Kid’s First Ever TV Commercial

Posted on 5:11 PM by veer

Noah Ritter the 5 year old viral sensation better know as the "apparently kid" stars in his first commercial and he doesn't disappoint.
We teamed up with superstar Noah Ritter to hear his thoughts about Dogs, Dinosaurs, and everything in-between. To further pursue his bright future as a paleontologist, we've set up a college fund for Noah so that he can continue his dream :) Good luck Noah!

At Freshpet, our dogs and cats aren’t just our pets. They’re part of the family. And as our families choose to eat fresh, less-processed foods, we thought it made sense that our pets should too. That’s why we made Freshpet. Freshpet isn’t found on the shelf like every other pet food. You’ll only find it in the Freshpet fridge. Just fresh meats and fresh veggies, and no preservatives.

Behind the scenes with FreshPet, Noah, and the creators of the commercial: Shareability, who btw are the first full service brand agency to focus exclusively on YouTube.

VW Golf and Target - The Way Too Helpful Neighbor

Posted on 4:11 PM by veer

VOLKSWAGEN TEAMS WITH FUNNY OR DIE TO TAKE THE 2015 GOLF ON A WILD SHOPPING SPREE
The Vehicle Launch Kicks Off with Video Starring Childrens Hospital’s Rob Huebel
Herndon, VA (September 10, 2014) – Volkswagen of America (VWoA) today announced a collaboration with Funny Or Die to support the market introduction of the all-new 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The platform provides the leaders in automotive and humor an opportunity to come together in celebration of exceptional products and lighthearted fun.

The collaboration kicks off with “The Way Too Helpful Neighbor,” a hilarious video showcasing just how helpful a 2015 Volkswagen Golf can be. After the hero’s girlfriend springs a surprise visit from her parents on him, a way-too helpful neighbor takes the boyfriend on a shopping spree by driving a Golf through the aisles of a Target store that is truly a one-stop-shop. This comedic video highlights the versatility of the 2015 Golf and the modern, functional style of Target’s Room Essential home décor and storage products, all through the signature sense of humor that has made Funny Or Die the go-to place for laughs online.

The video was shot in an actual Target store in Texas and stars Rob Huebel, a Funny Or Die regular and comedic actor in TV and film. Rob starred in Alexander Payne’s Oscar winning film THE DESCENDANTS, opposite George Clooney and is currently recurring on Jill Soloway’s Amazon upcoming series TRANSPARENT and FX’s popular comedy series THE LEAGUE. Rob is known for his amazing improv comedy skills and has brought his irreverent brand of humor to one of Volkswagen’s most highly-acclaimed models.

“The incredible versatile Golf gives our creative team free reign to come up with wild ideas,” said Vinay Shahani, Vice President, Brand Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Funny or Die is one of the most recognized and sought after brands in comedy today so we knew they would be the perfect partner to amplify Volkswagen’s unique sense of humor.”

“This is our first time working with Volkswagen, and this was a very exciting opportunity for our team to partner with a brand known for some of the most interesting and innovative advertising campaigns of the last half-century," said Chris Bruss, VP of Branded Entertainment, Funny or Die.

Funny Or Die.TBS viewers will get the full scoop on the new Volkswagen Golf when “The Way Too Helpful Neighbor” airs during CONAN and TBS movie breaks beginning September 11. Twenty-second sneak peeks of the branded comedy spot will also run adjacent to Big Bang Theory and TBS movies, driving fans to Funny Or Die for more. Volkswagen will have significant digital presence with promotional drivers across TeamCoco.com, TBS.com and funnyordie.com, as well as the TBS Big Bang Theory Sync App. Turner Broadcasting Ad Sales is the exclusive representative for advertising opportunities with Funny Or Die. The strategic partnership provides brands access to premium comedic content, while offering promotional scale with Turner’s portfolio of premium brands like TBS and Adult Swim.
The creative concept for the content was developed in collaboration with Volkswagen's creative Agency of Record, Deutsch LA, and the media partnership with Turner was established by Mediacom, Volkswagen's media Agency of Record.
