Charlie Hebdo Cartoonists Remembered for Outrageous Wine Labels Designs

Posted on 4:53 PM by veer

As Charlie Hebdo returns to newsstands, we wanted to share this new element to the story: three of the slain cartoonists were France’s most outrageous wine label designers.

This past week, the words "Je suis Charlie" ("I am Charlie") have traveled the world in sympathy with the victims of the deadly jihadist terrorist attack on the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, for which Al Qaeda in Yemen is now claiming responsibility.

Among the slain were five of France's most celebrated cartoonists. Three of them were also among the country's most outrageous wine label designers. Read the full story and see more of the designs at The Wine Spectator

Posted on 11:29 AM by veer

Fail Ale Brew Co. is a small scale brewery specialising in Craft Beer. The Idea behind the brand is to stand out from competitors by essentially making mockery of themselves. The aim of the design was to explore the notion of 'Failure' and create a unique light hearted style which still came across as a quality product.

Airbnb's New Handmade Ad, Shot in One Take Is A Wonderful Ride

Posted on 2:57 PM by veer

When we travel, the world around us gets smaller. Friendships are made on the fly, landscapes are explored, and new experiences are found around every corner. And when you stay in an Airbnb listing, this small world feeling is amplified immeasurably. We've created a fantastic handmade world that dramatizes the feeling you get while traveling with Airbnb. It's an expansive world, yet truly personal. As the train travels through this world, the viewer gets to experience what is Airbnb and how Airbnb enables you to Belong Anywhere.

Below: A behind the scenes look at the process of creating 'Welcome to Airbnb'. The film was shot through a small camera mounted on the model train in a single, 60-second take. All external movements are mechanical, not animated or done in post-production. All the different transitions that were hand operated had to be incredibly coordinated. It was a well-orchestrated effort to ensure that the 9 people who did several jobs at once were able to either fold things up before, or tilt things over and rotate things to ensure the one perfect take.

The commercial was created by TBWA Singapore and filmed in an Aukland warehouse, 30 people spent five weeks and 2,400 hours creating the 85-square-meter set. Rarely do we enjoy watching a spot that's :60 plus seconds, but this is one that we wished kept going just a bit more.

V Squared Labs Awes With Groundbreaking StarCraft II Projection Mapped Stage for the World Champion Series at BlizzCon 2014

Posted on 6:22 PM by veer

V Squared Labs, the Los Angeles based leading visual arts studio was recently commissioned by Blizzard Entertainment to produce the larger-than-life eSports stage for the World Championship of StarCraft II at this year's BlizzCon Conference. Standing at an incredible 130ft wide x 40ft tall the V Squared Labs team completed an astounding 3-D projection mapped stage creation at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena. Twenty-four 26K projectors running over 624,000 lumens helped make this the second largest projection mapped stage of its kind in the e-sports field with the number one highest pixel count.

The goal of the animation was to immerse the audience in new worlds inspired by the existing lore from the maps and races. The illusion created by re-projecting these virtual scenes onto the dynamic set were so convincing that the audience at moments became unable to distinguish the virtual from the physical reality. The set was built and installed by Stage House in Las Vegas whose team truly helped make this design a reality.

Projection geometry was designed to frame and highlight the stage elements as well as to reflect and incorporate the StarCraft II game aesthetic. The wrapping of two booth windows, two front stairs and three screens, made the structure completely continuous allowing for fluid animation transitions. To enhance the live experience, Every surface was rigorously kept at 45 degree angles for build convenience, projection purposes, and to mirror the isometric viewing style of the game itself. The set topology was inspired from StarCraft II user interface elements, in-game architecture, and the various animations that were projected onto the set. Several iterations and styles of set geometry were explored and finessed over a span of 6 weeks before settling on a final design for animation.

The stage was designed to enhance and amplify StarCraft II gameplay and architectural styles. The animation design incorporated game assets with original 3D models created by V Squared Labs. Each of these race looks also had a unique victory sequence that overtook the losing players side of the set. The player and display booths were positioned at a height that visually exemplified their epic reputations giving the arena audience an encompassing cinematic experience.

VSA "Went Big" for Hyatt's New Campaign

Posted on 4:57 PM by veer

VSA Partners “went big” in the new campaign showcasing the detail orientation of their client Hyatt as relates to meeting planners needs.

The strategy culminated in the key message, “A million details. One unforgettable experience,” derived from the insights gleaned in putting together a successful event: it’s about the “millions” of details and the people who manage all of them to create a seamless, remarkable experience. The campaign includes print, digital, social media, sales collateral and email marketing efforts.

The life-sized nature of the tableaus turned into a significant technical challenge, not just for photographer Mark Wiens (who stayed in a crane basket for hours at a time while assistants carefully arranged items) but for the stylists who tracked down the raw materials, some of which were actually raw: “There’s a bunch of different vegetables in there, from romanesco to tomatoes to lemons, not to mention charcuterie plates, bottles of water, lanyards, full table settings, hotel key cards and so much more,” reported Britta Hernalsteen, VSA Associate Creative Director, who noted the extreme attention to detail over the three-day shoot. “Because it was all done in camera, we were going on set repeatedly with rulers to make sure everything was aligned and evenly spaced. As a result, it all feels real and turns out to be a better product than if we had done it digitally.”

Coca-Cola Diet Coke: Millions of One of a Kind Bottles

Posted on 4:22 PM by veer

Coca Cola Israel: A new campaign for Diet-Coke revealed a unique collection of over 2 million unique one-of-a-kind bottles. The campaign, revolving around the concept “Stay Extraordinary,” produced over 2 million different bottles using a new printing system that printed every bottle with a different look. For the consumer this meant no bottle repeated itself and whoever bought a diet coke bottle received a one-of-a-kind design. The purpose of the campaign was to convey to Diet-Coke lovers that they are extraordinary by creating unique one-of-a-kind extraordinary bottles.

The unique bottles were marketed in all POS in packages of 51 oz., 17 oz. and in 12 oz. bottles. The campaign was accompanied by digital media coverage which gave Diet-Coke fans the opportunity to create an online cup set of their choice, identical to the bottles they collected. In addition to all of the above, selected marketing outlets gave the consumers the chance to create thousands of Diet-Coke branded products such as bags, t-shirts and iPhone covers. Soon after, bottles were up for sale on E-bay at marketing prices as high as $200 for a collection and $15 for one bottle.

The complex campaign was made possible due to an innovative printing technology. A special algorithm was created which gave birth to the design technique - It could create millions of different designs that were completely auto-generated, with no need for human intervention. Alon Zamir, Vice President of Marketing Coca-Cola Israel: "We are proud to launch such a complex, innovative and extraordinary campaign which will convey to all Diet-Coke consumers how extraordinary they are themselves".

As always, the Diet-Coke brand strives to be innovative and fashionable, the exact qualities that make it so lovable for its consumers, and this campaign signifies this more than ever.

Meet The Brilliant Sculptors Behind Brita's "Sugar Biology"

Posted on 2:06 PM by veer

Harvest Films, based in Los Angeles, have commissioned sculptors Brendan Jamison and Mark Revels to create a giant human-shaped city in sugar cubes for a commercial by global giant Brita, the German water-filter company. Using 221,314 sugar cubes and measuring 8 metres long (26 feet), the sculpture represents the average amount of sugar that one human being consumes in a lifetime. The TV campaign is designed to highlight the serious health risks of drinking liquids with high sugar content. It will no doubt shock and bedazzle in equal measure.

Drinking one soda a day may not seem like much, but this simple choice can add up. In fact, over an average lifetime, drinking just one regular soda a day is the equivalent of consuming over 221,000 sugar cubes. What does that look like? Watch and see.

Nestlé - Optifibre Amazon

Posted on 2:28 PM by veer

A stylistic enchanted adventure, “Amazon” encompasses the definitive portrayals of good and evil. Ogilvy & Mather Paris commissions this television spot for Optifibre to highlight the brand’s core values. Produced by Troublemakers.tv and helmed by Mate Steinforth, this painstakingly detailed animation taps into a unique fantastical fairy-tale world with its own colourful story to tell.! !

When Mate Steinforth isn't feeling ridiculous about writing his own bio in the third person, he's either changing the diapers of his daughter or shouting at people to push pixels harder. After wasting much of his youth in front of the computer putting those pixels together himself, he wasted more time studying graphic design before deciding to do animation, which is what he wanted to do in the first place anyways. Several stints at several amazing studios in several cities - including Madrid and New York as a Creative Director at PSYOP - led him to a settled position as a Partner and Creative Director of SEHSUCHT in Berlin. He works with a hardcore bunch of crazy design fanatics on their signature style of moving images. After spending 12 hours in front of the computer at work, he likes to spend 12 more hours in front of the computer at home. Recently, this borderline behaviour was validated by winning some industry awards as well. While those are completely irrelevant to the real world whatsoever, he finds it strangely soothing.

Lucky Post’s Sai Selvarajan Creates New Show Open For Frame Of Mind

Posted on 3:46 AM by veer

Lucky Post’s Sai Selvarajan was tapped to create a new show open for the series Frame of Mind, which airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on KERA TV. The series, newly expanded into a full 13-episode season, showcases the work of independent filmmakers and video-makers and features a wide range of innovative media produced in or by Texans.

Sai Selvarajan and frequent collaborator Johnny Rutledge concepted and crafted the show open, which captures the spirit of the program and the work it showcases. “We wanted it to feel eclectic and dense, starting at a macro level and going wider as a representation of the creative process,” explains Selvarajan. Rutledge illustrated the man’s head, which was given an animated feel using an in-camera, stop motion approach. Elements of filmmaking - literal and conceptual - fill out the piece, which was edited by Selvarajan at Lucky Post. The music is by The Paper Chase, generously provided by the band’s former singer and popular music producer John Congleton.

“I’ve worked with Sai Selvarajan and Johnny Rutledge on a number of projects,” says Frame of Mind co-producer Bart Weiss, director of the Dallas Video Festival. “They always do an incredible job, but this may be their finest. The open perfectly contextualizes the series by illuminating the mindset of the filmmaker.”

In addition to the Show Open, Sai Selvarajan’s short film Duchamp – art directed by Johnny Rutledge - will air on the final installment of Frame of Mind. Concepted and written by Sai Selvarajan and Mark Coppage, Duchamp is a silent film about the power of music that stars real life husband and wife Aleksa Palladino (Manny & Lo, Boardwalk Empire) and musician Devon Church who make up the band Exitmusic.

The World's 1st Experimental Art, from your Washer

Posted on 12:49 PM by veer

Electrolux has released the next expression from their artful appliances idea with a new online film from Saatchi & Saatchi Thailand that demonstrates the artistic capability of its washing machines.

Collaborating with upcoming Thai experimental artist Pitchanan Sornyen, and production company Wakeup Rabbit, ‘Washing: Re-Imagined’ uses the magic of art and the power of imagination to highlight appliance product features in a way not done before. Washing functions like Time Manager, Vapour Action and Refresh Cycle are used to create a piece of unique art that will be showcased by Electrolux at a later date.

"Most advertisements for washing machines treat appliances like commodities,” said Nuntawat Chaipornkaew, Executive Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi. “With Electrolux, we wanted to showcase the product with creativity and mystery to show that there is a lot more to the appliance than people expect."

‘Washing: Re-Imagined’ follows the success of Saatchi & Saatchi Thailand’s previous film for Electrolux that captured the first piece of art in the world created with a vacuum cleaner. ‘The Power to Capture Imagination’ film has received more than 1 million views on YouTube.
